For most of us, Facebook is just a fun way to keep up with friends. But for some artists—especially for those whose subject matter is contemporary social issues—Facebook provides endless fodder for their work, acutely illuminating the way we interact with each other and with the world. Based on these artists’ observations, we may be able to more closely examine our own online communities: What do we use them for? What messages do we communicate? How do we connect to others in the modern age? Or, maybe we can just use it as validation of our own meme-sharing and former classmate-stalking: all in the name of art!
