Art Beneath the Sea

Though it looks like we could have discovered a treasure trove of ancient sculpture, the man in a backwards baseball cap clues us in otherwise.  Off the coast of Cancun, a whole new world has been evolving with the help of artist Jason deClaires Taylor.  This British born contemporary artist has created underwater sculptures for the Museum of Underwater Modern Art.

The museum offers divers and snorkelers the chance to swim among the other marine guests that have moved in to inhabit the sites every day.  As artificial reefs, these permanent installations provide new marine ecosystems that alleviate heavy tourist traffic from other delicate and naturally forming reefs.

This artist also has work in places like the Bahamas, Greece and the United Kingdom highlighting unique artistic functions and innovative, natural, integration.

Whether you get to discover art around the world or just around the block, be sure to SNAP it and share your discoveries with the rest of the Artsnapper community!
